Reviews ~ The Super Spies and the Cat Lady Killer

Review by Paige
The Super Spies and the Cat Lady Killer by Lisa Orchard is an absolutely amazing book. 5 out of 5 bookworms for sure.
The whole time it keeps you guessing and thinking about what is going to happen. It also has a little hint of humor. This story of great friends takes you on a mysterious and suspenseful journey through a town of weirdoes. It was very hard to put down. Every chapter there was a new twist that kept me up late at night reading. The characters were very different some serious, scary, and most of all silly! All ages would love this book and never want to stop reading.
The book is a great mystery and almost seems real. If you get scared or disgusted easily I would not suggest this book but if you’re like me and are not scared very easily you will love it as much as I do.
The Super Spies are like Nancy Drew of the twenty first century but more FABULOUS!!! This book is a must read for all ages.

Technically The Super Spies and the Cat Lady Killer is written for kids, but it's a good read that's sure to please mystery/suspense fans of all ages. If you want an intricate mystery that you have to work to solve, you won't find that here, but if you enjoy a little bit of terror, interesting characters and a fast-paced plot, you'll like this one.
I absolutely loved all the Super Spies, particularly the three girls who were at the center of the plot. The main character Sarah is immediately likable, and her bravery could put lesser female sleuths to shame. Best friend Jackie is funny and fashionable, but instead of turning her into a typical airhead Orchard has made her a fierce friend and a quick thinker with unwavering loyalty. Lacey is lovable despite her clumsiness, and together they form a strong core trio that I'd love to read about again and again.
The small-town setting feels very real, and throughout the writing is vividly descriptive to make every scene come alive. The mystery isn't about solving the murder -- you'll do that pretty quickly -- it's about whether or not Sarah and the Super Spies can prove themselves to the adults in town...something every teenager wonders at some point in their lives. Orchard clearly knows kids well; the dialogue is smooth and natural, and peppered with jokes that help to lighten the tension and drama of the story.
The book is also well-edited and beautifully formatted, an easy read that moves quickly from page to page. I'm definitely going to read the next installment in the Super Spies series, and anything else Lisa Orchard might care to write.

Fourteen and fifteen year old, green eyed and blond, Sara and Lacey Cole are spending the summer at their aunt and uncle's house. They come from the big city, Walker, and are unsure what kind of summer they might have here in the small town of Harrisburg, Michigan.
One hot, humid day Sarah meets Jacqueline Jenkins. Jackie is five inches taller, skinny, curly headed, and fashion conscious. The topic of conversation is the crazy, cat lady that lives down the street. Jackie swears the old woman is a witch. Strange things have been happening to people in and around her house.
Sarah decides that Jackie is the ying to her yang. This could be a great summer after all. They meet up the next day and play truth or dare. The three girls discover that the cat lady has been murdered. They are bound and determined to find this woman's killer.
Lisa Orchard writes a most descriptive story of the teenage girl's adventures. This, my fellow readers, is the most exciting, fast paced, realistic, educational, emotional, `you just can't put it down' books! Truly a story to entice any aged reader.
I absolutely loved it and I want to see more of these Super Spies.
I give Lisa Orchard's fabulous story 5 Sunflowers!

The Super Spies and the Cat Lady Killer by Lisa Orchards follows the story of Sarah's summer vacation in the small town of Harrisburg. Along with her sister, Lacey, they are staying at their Aunt and Uncle's home which they expect their summer days will be full of dull days. All that changes when Sarah meets Jackie. For fun, the two sisters and Jackie play a game of "Truth or Dare" with Sarah being dared to knock at the door of Mrs. Fedewa, the weird "Cat Lady". Their harmless game turns to danger when Sarah discovers the Cat Lady's lifeless body.
The girls get caught in the crossfire of suspects and Officer Klonsky firmly believes that they are responsible. In order to omit their names from the list of suspects, the girls set forth on a mission and perform their own investigation to solve the murder and get justice for Mrs. Fedewa. Collectively they call themselves The Super Spies. Throughout their investigation, they reveal some dreadful and tragic secrets.
The tale presented a high-quality of suspense which was the highlight of the book. The suspense meter was turned up all the way as readers will find themselves having difficulties putting the book down. Lisa's writing created three very likable characters. The bond and friendship of Sarah and Jackie was sincere and natural. Although they've known one another for a short period of time, it felt like they were best friends for a long time. The story tells of a crime and thriller story but it also focuses on friendship and the lessons we learn in life. It takes the reader to an adventure filled with suspense with a plot that will have them on the edge of their seats, frantically wanting to see how the story concludes.

Sarah was sure this summer would be the worst. She was stuck in a small town at her Aunt and Uncle's house with her younger sister. How much worse could it get? Sarah then meets Jackie. They become fast friends and suddenly the summer doesn't look too bad. While sitting under a tree and talking, the girls begin to play Truth or Dare. It's a dare that leads Sarah to discover the body of the cat lady. Jackie had told her some pretty wild tales about the cat lady. Sarah wasn't sure whether to believe them or not. While checking out the body, the girls are frightened by police sirens and run to the basement to hide. The police discover them easily enough and arrest them. After some time at the police station, the girls are let go, it's then Sarah decides she's got to find out who murdered the cat lady and why. They are pretty good detectives, even if their methods aren't always the best. Slowly, Sarah starts putting the puzzle together and she's certain she knows who the killer is, now to find out the why. The girls learn a valuable lesson. People aren't always what they seem.
This book is reminiscent of the Nancy Drew mysteries from when I was a little girl. A terrific puzzle; just enough curiosity to send them looking but not enough to cause real violence— perfect for the young ladies in your life. The characters are adorable! You can just about see them walking down the street in any small town. Well written and just enough scary to make young ladies go on alert for the tiniest noises. You easily get caught up in the kids’ adventure and don't want to put the book down until they solve the crime. As an adult, this book is still a good read. I was pulled in right away. The curious kids remind us of when we were young. This one is a must for the young ladies on your list and I hope Lisa Orchard makes this into a series for girls.
I didn't find any issues.
I gave this one 5 out of 5 books because it's time there were more books, wholesome books, for girls!
